Preparation

Preparing for a psilocybin ceremony

Practical steps for the weeks, days and hours before your ceremony, from intake and medication to sleep and what to bring.

Preparation for a psilocybin ceremony

The essentials are simple: arrive rested, sober and with enough space in your schedule for the day and the day after.

Preparation is not about controlling the experience. It removes avoidable pressure and gives you more room for whatever arises. The practical details are discussed during intake before your date.

Step-by-step preparation

In the weeks before

Intake and intention

  • Complete the telephone intake and share relevant health and medication information.
  • Consider what brings you to the ceremony. A direction is enough; it does not need to be a perfect question.
  • If you use medication, speak with your doctor early. Never stop prescribed medication yourself.

In the week before

Create more calm

  • Reduce alcohol and avoid it completely during the final days.
  • Reduce heavy caffeine and other stimulants.
  • Eat a little lighter than usual without turning it into a strict diet.
  • Keep the following day free so the experience has time to settle.

The evening before

Rest

  • Prioritise sleep; exhaustion can make the experience more demanding.
  • Avoid alcohol and an unnecessarily late night.
  • Prepare your clothes and belongings so the morning stays calm.

On the day

Arrive lightly and on time

  • Have a light breakfast or no breakfast, following the instructions discussed with MHT.
  • Wear comfortable clothing and bring an additional warm layer.
  • Arrive on time and switch off your work phone.
  • Do not plan to drive yourself home after the ceremony.

The days afterwards matter too

Do not fill the following day with work, travel or important decisions. Rest, walk, write down what remains with you and speak with someone you trust if that feels helpful.

If difficult feelings or symptoms persist, contact MHT and seek appropriate professional or medical support when needed.

Preparation questions

Do I need to fast before a psilocybin ceremony?

MHT generally advises a light breakfast or no breakfast. You receive practical instructions before the ceremony; drinking water remains possible.

What should I bring?

Bring comfortable clothing, an extra warm layer and, if you wish, one small meaningful object. Eye masks, blankets, music, drinks and food are provided.

Do I need a clear intention?

No. An intention can offer direction, but it is not a goal that the experience must achieve. A simple open question or theme is enough.

Can I change or stop medication before the ceremony?

Do not change prescribed medication yourself. Discuss it with the prescribing doctor and disclose all medication during intake so suitability can be considered.
